Filigree Frill

We ran across Filigree Frill at a local pet store that sells fish as well. I have found it listed online as Myrio Simulans. It’s a lighter green plant with very fine leaves that look like pine needles. It’s a pretty plant and a fast grower. It thrived in our tank until an outbreak of what I think were diatoms covered it and choked out much of it’s ability to grow.

I moved it out of our tank and kept it in a flower vase on the windowsill for about a year. Believe it or not, some has survived and rehabilitated and today I went through and pruned out the old dead branches and salvaged the living sprigs. Two of these living sprigs have been placed back into the tank. I fixed one to the substrate and am leaving the other free floating.

I think it likes fairly high lighting, although in the window sill it had lower light and was covered up with dead plant material and debris, yet managed to survive. The light look of this plant has made it another of my recent favorites. I’m really pulling for it to have new life in the tank now. It is sparse in the area of information online about this plant. It comes from Australia and can go under several names filigree myrio, myrio filigree, myrio simulan, myriophyllum simulan.
