Amazon Sword Plant
Amazon Sword Plant is a classic aquarium plant. It’s fairly easy to keep. As the name would hint it originally came from the Amazon River basin and in some ways resembles the Peace Lily Houseplant that many will be familiar with.
It doesn’t necessarily need high light conditions and will not grow quite as well as medium light (I haven’t found watt/gallon estimates.) But, in our tank we have an amazon sword in the corner that is growing quite well. 12 hours a day of light is suggested.
Propagation of Amazon sword plants is mainly by root division although it’s possible that they could flower and produce seed under the right conditions.
Snails, and Plecos are known to eat Amazon Sword Plants. Silver Dollars and Cichlids will also cause some damage to Amazon Sword Plants.
They seem to do well in the pH range between 6.5 and 7.5 They can grow to as much as 12-18 inches tall.
